How Virtual Tourist Opened My Eyes to Inspiration

This is a guest post I wrote back in November 2011 for Canada’s Adventure Couple – Dave & Deb it was published on their super fab site earlier this week. This was my first guest post I’ve written and was great to see my post on their site.

How Virtual Tourist Opened My Eyes to Inspiration

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Confucius.

Sometimes, in life there are too many ‘what if’ moments. Moments where we find ourselves questioning motives, desires, yearnings, personal histories, and the what if I do, do it. What then?

Confucius was right in his statement. To become a traveler, you must take that first step. After that, the adventure is yours.

The Illumination of Niagara Falls

One hundred and fifty-two years ago the Falls of Niagara became a chorus of coloured light. It would take another twenty-four years before permanent arrangements could be made to illuminate the Falls, nightly.

Fast forward one hundred and twenty-eight years for my turn to digitally alter Niagara’s colours with a single touch of my finger.

I lit up one of the worlds most popular attractions, Niagara Falls.

This season the crowds of visitors were not confined to the daytime, but a most interesting feature of the mid-summer months was the illumination of the falls by searchlights on a scale never before attempted. The effect of all this lavish display of electrical light upon the falls each night was a new revelation of beauty which was very highly appreciated by citizens and visitors alike.” Niagara Parks Superintendent James Wilson, 1901.

The snow I left behind in Canada | Photo Post

Friday the 13th and the Niagara Region gets hit with its first major snow storm of 2012 and I found myself in a snowy paradise.

I prayed to the snow Gods for every night and day. On the twenty-third day she responded with blinding whiteness.

It was cold, bitter cold, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying natures white wrath of beauty.

The wind billowed its wicked strength though my ancient winter coat as the fat flakes fell gracefully from the grey snow filled sky.

How do you play in the snow, or do you prefer the comforts of a warm fireplace?

Niagara Falls

Leisure is a form of silence, not noiselessness. It is the silence of contemplation such as occurs when we let our minds rest on a rosebud, a child at play, a Divine mystery, or a waterfall.

The Singing Brazilian | Mr. Satisfaction

It’s Monday. Period. And I can’t get no satisfaction. I’ve attempted to write a top something list (it will be published, at some point in the near-ish future) but my mind is distracted by other things. There is a cool salt breeze coming through the open bay windows. The ocean from here, is but a calm motionless entity. The hazy blue sky reflects my lazy mood. It’s times like these when one should tie on their sneakers and hit the streets for a run. But I’m addicted. I’ll run tomorrow and blog today. Read the rest of this entry

Lillie’s Bordello | Dublin, Ireland

I had an Irish-born boyfriend once. Who came to Canada to open an Irish pub. I was the bartender and, he was the general manager, we fell in love. He had a friend in Dublin and I loved to travel, so I packed my bags and headed for the little green island. He stayed back in Canada slinging Guinness. I stayed with his friend Vanessa and she lived two blocks from the city center of Dublin. She liked to party, it was nineteen ninety-nine after all, and so did I. She had friends in every bar, nook and cranny along the cobblestoned streets of Dublin. She had a friend who was a bouncer at Dublin’s most prestigious nightclub Lillie’s Bordello. And that my readers is how I got my foot in the door at one of the worlds most exclusive nightclubs. Read the rest of this entry
